Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have taken significant steps to deepen bilateral cooperation on energy transition, with a sharp focus on attracting investment into clean energy technologies and sustainable resource utilisation.
In a high-level meeting, Nigeria’s Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, held talks with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy and Climate Change, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud.
The discussions centred on accelerating the deployment of clean energy solutions while responsibly harnessing both nations’ abundant natural resources to drive economic growth, improve energy access, and protect the environment.
The two leaders explored joint initiatives that would support global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions without compromising development priorities, emphasising practical pathways that deliver tangible benefits to their citizens.
In a separate session at the same conference, Dr. Abdullahi delivered a keynote address highlighting Nigeria’s strong commitment to an energy-efficient and climate-friendly cooling transition.
He outlined the federal government’s strategy to expand access to sustainable cooling solutions in a way that aligns with international climate targets and minimises environmental harm.
Key topics included the adoption of minimum energy performance standards (MEPS), the rollout of next-generation cooling technologies, and their critical role in cutting emissions across fast-growing economies.
Dr. Abdullahi stressed Nigeria’s readiness to harmonise its standards with global best practices and to collaborate with partners on affordable, low-carbon cooling for homes, businesses, and industries.
