‘Nigeria is becoming a crime scene’ – AY laments insecurity

AY Makun, the ace comedian, has expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, declaring that the nation is rapidly “turning into a crime scene”.

Makun’s outburst, shared via his X account, was a direct response to a wave of recent violent incidents he described as “alarming”.

He pointed to a series of attacks that have shaken the country, including assaults on churches, the mass abduction of schoolchildren in Kebbi state, and the killing of M. Ubah, a brigadier general and high-ranking army officer.

“Nigeria is turning into a crime scene. Bandits storm churches to kill and abduct Christians. Children are kidnapped from schools. A Brigadier General is shot dead. Every day brings fresh chaos yet the government remains silent,” he wrote.

The comedian framed his frustration in the form of poignant questions, asking “How did we get here? And must outsiders come to fix what our leaders refuse to confront?”

He concluded with a clear demand from citizens, stating, “We need safety, accountability and real action, not silence”.

His comments came just hours after reports emerged that an unconfirmed number of worshippers were abducted during a Tuesday evening attack by bandits on a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Oke Isegun, Eruku community, Kwara state.

The church attack followed closely on the heels of another major incident: the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, located in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi state, which occurred on Monday.
