The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has rolled out compulsory drug integrity tests for both newly recruited officers and personnel already in active service, Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 CGC Conference in Abuja, Adeniyi said the policy is now a non-negotiable part of the ongoing recruitment exercise and will also apply to serving officers.
“We can no longer take the risk of having personnel who are unfit or substance-dependent manning our borders, enforcing the law, or collecting revenue,” the CGC stated.“There will be no compromise,” he stressed.
“We are going to ensure that every new officer is tested so that we do not begin to spend Service resources rehabilitating personnel.”
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, on Tuesday evening.
The new drug testing regime is aimed at guaranteeing that only mentally and physically fit individuals serve in the Nigeria Customs Service.
