Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old notorious organ trafficking suspect, Maro Ebojoh, for attempting to purchase the kidneys of four young men in Lafia.
Parading the suspect on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Shettima Jauro said Ebojoh was apprehended at Yahaya Sabo Motor Park, Bukan Sidi, while finalising arrangements to harvest the organs.
The four victims — Umar Barau (25), Suleman Alhaji-Garba (20), Williams Dadung (32), and Stanley Ezekiel (27), were lured with promises of N2 million each after selling one kidney.
They had already been taken to a private hospital in Abuja for pre-surgery screening and were lodged in a hotel to stabilise their blood pressure when police stormed the facility and rescued them.
CP Jauro disclosed that Ebojoh confessed to the crime and admitted to facilitating a similar transaction two months earlier, where he earned N1 million commission after paying the donor N2.5 million.
The victims told investigators they received an initial N500,000 deposit each from the suspect.
