Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has sharply condemned former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi for allegedly inciting Nigerians to protest amid the country’s security challenges, urging him to “desist from inflammatory remarks.”
In a statement on Thursday, Matawalle also addressed public criticism over the absence of Minister of Defence Muhammad Badaru, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, clarifying that Badaru is attending the 2025 Dubai International Airshow with President Bola Tinubu’s full approval.
“The Dubai Airshow is one of the world’s premier platforms for defence and aerospace collaboration. Minister Badaru is leading a high-level Nigerian delegation to showcase our defence capabilities and forge strategic partnerships,” Matawalle said.
He stressed that the trip in no way undermines the government’s response to ongoing insecurity, particularly the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
President Tinubu has directed Matawalle to immediately relocate to Kebbi to personally oversee rescue operations.“I remain on ground, fully focused on coordinating the safe return of the abducted students.
Our security agencies are working round the clock, and strategies are firmly in place,” he assured.
Matawalle highlighted the advantage of the two-minister structure in the Ministry of Defence, saying it ensures uninterrupted leadership even when one minister is on approved international duty.
“Minister Badaru will join the efforts immediately upon his return. Nigeria’s commitment to the safety of its citizens remains absolute,” he added.
