Kwara Govt Shuts Down All Schools in Five LGAs Over Fresh Bandit Attacks

The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas following a surge of deadly bandit attacks in the last 48 hours.

The decision comes hours after gunmen killed three people , two rice farmers and one vigilante, in Bokungi community, Edu LGA on Wednesday evening.

Four persons were initially abducted in the raid; two were later executed while the wounded vigilante is receiving treatment.

The bloodshed followed Tuesday’s horrific attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, where gunmen killed two worshippers and abducted at least 30 others during evening service.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dr Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, the government said the temporary shutdown which includes all boarding facilities in Irepodun is a proactive measure to prevent bandits from targeting schoolchildren amid intensified military operations against terrorist hideouts.

“The safety of our children is non-negotiable. These measures will remain in force until security agencies give full clearance for resumption,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris disclosed on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu has placed the nation’s entire security apparatus on “highest alert” in response to the escalating attacks in Kwara and the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Kebbi State earlier this week.

Normal academic activities will remain suspended across the affected Kwara LGAs until further notice.
