Kaduna Seals Five Major Mining Deals Worth $3bn at G-20 Summit in South Africa

Kaduna State has taken a giant leap toward becoming Nigeria’s new mining powerhouse after signing five strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on the sidelines of the 2025 G-20 Summit.

Governor Senator Uba Sani personally led the delegation and unveiled the state’s ambitious roadmap titled “Unlocking Kaduna’s Green Minerals Future,” highlighting Kaduna’s 23 commercially viable mineral deposits, including lithium, gold, and nickel, which are critical for the global energy transition.

The agreements, executed by the Kaduna Mining Development Company (KMDC), cover advanced mineral mapping, project financing, gold refining and processing, and deeper integration into continental value chains.

The deals are expected to attract up to $3 billion in fresh investments within the next two years, create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, and drive sustainable wealth creation for local communities.

“Kaduna is open for responsible, transparent, and sustainable mining business,” Governor Sani declared at the G-20 International Investment Forum for Solid Minerals.

“We are deliberately shifting from raw extraction to local processing and value addition so that the real benefits of our mineral wealth stay with our people.”

The governor praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms for restoring global investor confidence and empowering states to aggressively pursue foreign direct investment.

He also urged Nigeria and South Africa to deepen mining sector collaboration and fast-track the implementation of AfCFTA protocols on critical minerals.

With these landmark agreements, Kaduna has firmly positioned itself as a frontline state in Nigeria’s quest to dominate the green-minerals supply chain and power the world’s clean-energy future.
