Kaduna State Police Command has recovered a sack containing 210 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition abandoned along the Zaria-Funtua Highway after it was reportedly thrown from a moving vehicle.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Samaru Division, Zaria, received credible information from members of the public that occupants of a black Volkswagen Golf commercial vehicle suspiciously discarded a sack from the moving car at Dogo Itace axis, Samaru, on the Zaria-Funtua Highway.
A police patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they recovered the abandoned sack containing the ammunition.
The DPO promptly alerted other police divisions along the route toward Funtua in a bid to intercept the vehicle and arrest its occupants. However, the suspects had already fled the area by the time the information was relayed.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabio Muhammad, commended the public for their vigilance and timely report. He urged residents to continue providing prompt and useful information to security agencies.
CP Muhammad assured that a full-scale investigation and manhunt for the fleeing suspects have been launched, reiterating the Command’s determination to rid Kaduna State of criminal elements.
He warned criminals operating in the state to either desist or leave immediately, stressing that anyone caught engaging in illegal activities will face the full weight of the law.
The recovered ammunition has been taken into police custody as exhibits while investigations continue.
