Duoye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, says he will work with party stakeholders to ensure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) gets 99 percent of the votes in the 2027 general election.
Diri spoke on Monday in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa,
when he officially joined the ruling party.
“I am not a bossy type. I have come to unite us so that we
can work together and produce a 99 per cent result in Bayelsa come 2027. I
don’t know the opposition from the other side,” he said.
“There is so much we can do together by aligning with the
federal government that has shown us the will and direction that they love the
people of Bayelsa state.
“Don’t let anybody deceive you; anybody telling you
otherwise is for their own selfish purposes. A lot of people were afraid that
there might be factions in the APC.
“Since I announced my coming, I have been accepted by the
whole of the APC family in Bayelsa. So I want to thank the APC that has come to
me in Bayelsa.”
The governor commended the warmth and encouragement he had
received from the APC since announcing his defection from the PDP.
He explained that his decision to leave the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP)—the party through which he became the governor—was
influenced by the “guidance” of the APC-led federal government.
He said the current administration has shown affection for
the Ijaw people.
Portraying himself as a unifier, Diri said his primary goal
within the APC in Bayelsa is to foster cohesion and strengthen solidarity among
members.
