The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Wednesday undertook back-to-back working visits to Niger and Kebbi states to assess the security situation and reinforce federal support following recent violent incidents, including the abduction of students in Niger State.
In Niger State, the IGP landed at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, around 1:30 p.m. and was received by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 7, Victor Olaiya, Commissioner of Police CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, and heads of sister security agencies.
The visit came days after gunmen abducted pupils and staff from St. Mary Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
At Government House, Minna, the IGP held closed-door talks with Governor Umaru Muhammad Bago, traditional rulers, and senior government officials.
The engagement ended peacefully, and he departed at about 2:50 p.m.Earlier in the day, the police chief arrived at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, at approximately 10:57 a.m. and proceeded to the Presidential Lodge for a security briefing with stakeholders.
He subsequently paid a courtesy call on Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, at Government House, Kauru Gwandu, where discussions centred on strengthening collaboration to tackle banditry and other crimes.
Both visits concluded without incident, with security agencies maintaining heightened patrols and surveillance across strategic locations in the two states.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to sustained proactive operations to prevent further attacks and restore full public confidence in the affected communities.
