Davido, the Afrobeats star, has revealed his desire to take on the role of a taxi driver in a movie.
At the panel session of the 14th Africa International Film
Festival (AFRIFF), the ‘Assurance’ hitmaker also expressed his interest in
venturing into film production in the coming years.
He disclosed that a close associate has promised to give him
a role, adding that he would love to take on something unexpected, such as
playing a taxi driver.
He also shared his desire to produce films and series
inspired by real-life stories while helping to provide funding opportunities
for creatives.
“In the coming years, I definitely want to get involved in
producing movies. My brother was saying he’s going to give me a role,” he said.
“I need a role, I want to do something that would shock
people, like playing a taxi driver, something completely out of the blue.
“I definitely want to get involved in movies. Even in
America, a lot of musicians produce films and series about their lives.
“When I was younger, I used to watch series based on
people’s real lives. I want to do things like that too, and also help get
funding for creatives.”
In April, the award-winning singer revealed his plan to
expand his creative empire by investing in the movie industry.
Several Nigerian singers have also ventured into filmmaking.
Among them is Burna Boy, whose pan-African thriller ‘3 Cold
Dishes’, co-produced with actress Osas Ighodaro, which screened at the
festival.
AFRIFF 2025 concluded with two final screenings, one of
which is ‘Afroculture: The Making’, a documentary by highlife singer Flavour
N’abania.
