Sunday Aneke, the chief of air staff, has directed air component commanders to intensify precision strikes against insurgents, terrorists, and criminal groups across the country.
Aneke gave the directive in Abuja on Wednesday during a
strategic meeting with commanders from various operational theatres held at the
Nigerian Air Force (NAF) headquarters.
He said the security environment requires smarter,
intelligence-driven and well-coordinated air operations to protect civilians
and restore stability.
“We must fly smarter and strike harder not only to
neutralise threats but also to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians,”
Aneke said.
“Every mission must reflect professionalism, purpose, and
patriotism.”
He added that the evolving nature of threats demands
synchronisation of air, land and maritime operations to achieve joint
effectiveness.
“Our operations must be intelligence-led, coordinated, and
focused. We will continue to work closely with the sister services and other
security agencies to ensure a united front in the fight against terrorism and
criminality,” he said.
Aneke assured personnel of continued investment in welfare,
training and technology upgrades to enhance operational performance.
“I will ensure you are equipped, trained, and motivated to
deliver results,” he said.
He reiterated that the NAF remains committed to supporting
the government’s efforts to secure the country while maintaining
professionalism and accountability.
“We will apply decisive force against those who threaten our
nation, with discipline, humanity, and professionalism,” he said.
The air chief urged commanders to translate strategic
directives into action and ensure that every sortie delivers measurable impact.
“The safety and confidence of our citizens are our mission
success indicators,” he said.
“Nigeria is counting on us, and we will not fail.”
Aneke had vowed to build a disciplined and highly responsive
NAF capable of keeping insurgents “running without time to think or plan”.
Aneke, who was confirmed by the senate on October 29
alongside other service chiefs, said his leadership will prioritise precision,
professionalism, and strategic innovation.
