The Federal Government has released a White Paper on Nigeria’s strategy to comply with the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR), alongside launching a National Agricultural Traceability and Environmental Monitoring Framework aimed at safeguarding over $4 billion in annual agricultural export revenue.
Speaking at the event, the Mini.ster of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, officially presented the White Paper and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
Through the partnership, NASRDA will supply satellite imagery, real-time environmental monitoring, geospatial mapping, and technical support, while the Ministry will lead farmer registration, integrate policies, and roll out the traceability system across the country.
Senator Kyari described the initiative as the dawn of a new era in which data-driven transparency, scientific evidence, and trust will define the global competitiveness of agricultural economies.
He stressed that the European Union will only accept a single, unified national traceability system and will reject fragmented or state-by-state approaches, making coordinated federal action essential to protect Nigeria’s access to the EU market.
