FEC Approves ₦1.03 Trillion in Road Projects, Boosts Concrete Highways

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has greenlit nine major road contracts totaling over ₦1.03 trillion, prioritizing durable concrete pavements amid rising material costs and terrain challenges.

Key approvals include:

Sokoto–Badagry Coastal Superhighway Section 3: 163 km from Badagry to Ogun-Oyo border at ₦553 billion (₦3.39 bn/km, full concrete).

Ota–Idiroko Road + Flyover (Ogun): 14 km + 509 m flyover for ₦121 billion.

Ijebu Igbo–Etapa–Owoyen Road: 37 km upgraded to full concrete at ₦53 billion (307% hike from ₦13 bn).

Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Phase II Section II: New ₦43.73 billion award with underpasses and ramps.

Ilorin–Omu Aran–Egba Phase I (Kwara): 31 km for ₦43 billion.

Wasasa–Turunku–Mararaba Phase II (Kaduna): 42 km at ₦30.23 billion.

Enugu–Onitsha Phase I: 35 km for ₦28.47 billion (₦7 bn balance pending).

Mushin–NNPC–Apapa–Oshodi Dualisation (Lagos): 14.4 km ports access at ₦19.09 billion (up from ₦11 bn).

East–West Road (restructured): Port Harcourt–Warri with three flyovers and two bridges under ₦156 billion package, adding flyovers at Abuloma and Refinery.

Works Minister Dave Umahi attributed cost revisions to enhanced designs, tough terrain, and inflation citing reinforcement steel now exceeding ₦1.1 million per ton.

He announced that Edo, Delta, and Abia governors will fund and execute select federal roads in their states to ease federal burden and speed delivery.

“These approvals deliver long-lasting concrete infrastructure built for decades of service and optimal value,” Umahi stated.
