EFCC Returns ₦104.1m in Unremitted Taxes to Niger State

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, officially transferred ₦104,091,162.46 to the Niger State Government, representing unremitted tax liabilities recovered from Kiara Rice Mills Limited in Mokwa Local Government Area.

The funds, accrued between 2021 and 2024, were handed over at the EFCC’s GRA Office in Ilorin after a thorough investigation by the Commission’s Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section confirmed the company’s failure to fully remit taxes despite substantial profits.

EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, represented by Ilorin Zonal Director, Commander Ansalem Ozioko, Ph.D., emphasized the agency’s mandate to recover misappropriated public resources and return them to rightful beneficiaries.

“This recovery demonstrates our commitment to accountability and the rule of law. We will continue to work with state governments to ensure transparency in revenue administration,” he stated.

He urged sustained collaboration between the EFCC and Niger State, calling on officials to report financial misconduct.Receiving the cheque, Alhaji Aminu Bawa, Group Head of Tax Operations at the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, praised the EFCC’s efficiency and assured that the funds would be channeled into priority developmental projects.

“This recovery will directly benefit the people of Niger State through improved infrastructure and services,” Bawa affirmed.
