The Super Eagles of Nigeria are expected to return to training after their earlier boycott over unpaid allowances.
On Tuesday, the Super Eagles players and officials boycotted
their scheduled evening training session due to outstanding payment owed by the
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The players are yet to receive their allowances for
qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 World Cup
playoff.
On Wednesday, however, Promise Efoghe, the team’s media
officer, said the issues had been “resolved”.
He added that the Super Eagles will return to training by 5
pm.
The key details of the negotiation and the terms agreed upon
by both the Eagles and the administrators were not revealed.
In a tweet on X, William Troost-Ekong, the Eagles captain,
confirmed that the issues have been addressed and that players are “as before,
focused on the games ahead”.
The Super Eagles play Gabon in one of the semi-finals for
the 2026 African World Cup playoffs on Thursday.
The winner of the match will face either Congo DR or
Cameroon in the final to clinch the sole slot to represent Africa at the
intercontinental playoff.
