DSS Chief Briefs Tinubu on Escalating Security Threats Amid Northern School Closures

In a late-night engagement at the Presidential Villa, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, held a high-level briefing with President Bola Tinubu on the nation's security landscape, focusing on the surge in banditry and terrorist activities that have prompted widespread school shutdowns across northern Nigeria.

The closed-door session, which lasted over two hours, comes amid a wave of emergency measures by state governments in response to intelligence alerts on potential attacks targeting educational institutions.

Sources close to the presidency confirmed that Ajayi, presented a comprehensive assessment of threats from groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, including fresh intelligence on planned incursions into vulnerable communities.

President Tinubu, who has repeatedly tasked security chiefs with decisive action against insecurity, reportedly emphasized the need for "proactive intelligence-led operations" to protect civilians, particularly children.

The briefing follows similar updates from the Chief of Army Staff earlier this month and aligns with recent DSS breakthroughs in local production of advanced security equipment, in partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

Notable developments highlighted in the discussion include the Katsina and Plateau states' indefinite closure of public schools on Friday, mirroring Taraba's earlier directive to de-board all secondary students due to abduction risks.
