A fully loaded petrol tanker overturned and erupted in flames along Eku-Abraka Road in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The accident happened near Ighene Street, just before Eku Market, sparking a massive fire that quickly spread to nearby houses and shops. Thick black smoke engulfed the area as flames consumed buildings along the roadside.
The Delta State Fire Service responded promptly, extinguishing the blaze after intense efforts. Emergency teams remain on site to secure the area and prevent secondary explosions from leftover fuel.
Casualty figures have not been officially confirmed, though unverified reports and videos circulating online suggest possible deaths and injuries among residents and bystanders near the tanker.
Authorities have urged locals to avoid the area while cleanup and investigations continue. The road remains partially blocked, causing traffic disruptions.
