Customs, Civil Defence Deepen Collaboration to Tackle Cross-Border Crimes in Katsina

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Katsina Area Command and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have bolstered their partnership to combat escalating cross-border crimes along Nigeria’s northern borders.

The enhanced collaboration was solidified during a courtesy visit on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, by the newly appointed NSCDC Katsina State Commandant, Corps Commander Abbas Dan Ile Moriki, to the Customs Area Command headquarters.

The meeting allowed both agencies to assess current security operations and explore deeper inter-agency cooperation.Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss, the Customs Area Controller, emphasized that unified efforts among security agencies are essential for effective border protection.

He highlighted that stronger synergy would curb revenue losses, dismantle criminal syndicates in border communities, and bolster national security.

“Strengthening collaboration among sister agencies is critical to safeguarding our nation,” Comptroller Idriss stated.

In response, Commandant Moriki praised the enduring relationship between the two bodies, calling it vital for establishing a cohesive security framework in alignment with federal government priorities.

He reaffirmed their commitment to joint patrols, community outreach, and adopting technology for improved border monitoring.

“I truly appreciate this partnership and believe it will significantly improve border coordination,” he said.

The Customs Area Controller noted that the initiative supports Nigeria’s national security strategy by fostering inter-agency unity to ensure safer borders and greater citizen protection in Katsina State.

Both agencies concluded the meeting with a firm commitment to expand intelligence sharing, joint surveillance, and coordinated operations to tackle smuggling, arms trafficking, and other cross-border threats to national stability.
