The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, has confirmed the abduction of 13 female farmers in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
The victims, all from Huyim District, were reportedly seized
on Saturday while travelling to Mussa District to harvest their farm produce.
Residents of Huyim are said to farm in Mussa due to limited access to their own
farmlands.
Askira said one of the abducted women escaped and returned
home on Sunday morning. The remaining 12, believed to be between the ages of 15
and 20, are still missing.
The Deputy Speaker, alongside Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume,
who represents Borno South, urged security agencies to intensify
search-and-rescue operations to secure the release of the women.
They also called on communities in the area to remain
vigilant and cooperate with security personnel by providing timely information
that could help prevent further attacks.
