Bandits Abduct 16-Year-Old Boy, Six Teenage Girls in Abuja Community

Armed bandits have kidnapped a 16-year-old boy and six young girls from Gidan-Bijimi, a community in Kawu ward of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The attack occurred on Wednesday night around 9:47 pm when gunmen wielding AK-47 rifles stormed two houses in the village, located near the border with Kaduna State.

A resident, Suleiman Shuaibu, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Thursday morning, saying the bandits fired sporadically as they abducted the victims, throwing the community into panic.

“Some vigilantes tried to confront them but had to retreat because of the bandits’ superior firepower,” Shuaibu said.

The abducted girls are between 17 and 23 years old. One of the victims is Shuaibu’s cousin.Residents said many families fled their homes following the raid. As of Thursday morning, the abductors had not made contact with the families.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.

The abduction comes just two days after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered intensified security across Abuja, including increased surveillance at borders and entry points with neighbouring states.

Following the minister’s directive, a joint military task force comprising the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other agencies was deployed across the territory, with logistics provided to ensure effectiveness.

Despite the heightened security measures, Wednesday’s attack highlights the persistent threat of banditry in communities on the outskirts of the nation’s capital.
