The Nigerian Army council has approved the promotion of 105
senior officers to the ranks of major general and brigadier general.
In a statement on Friday, Appolonia Anele, acting director
army public relations, said the council approved the promotion on Thursday.
According to the statement, 28 brigadier generals were
promoted to the rank of major general, while 77 colonels got elevated to the
rank of brigadier general.
The promotion list includes officers occupying critical
intelligence, logistics, and operational positions across various formations.
Officers promoted to the rank of major-general include O.
Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency; S.M. Uba, director of defence
information; R.E. Hedima, acting chief of military intelligence army; R.T.
Utsaha, deputy director of defence operations; A.M. Umar, commandant of the
Warrant Officer Academy; S. Sulaiman, deputy military secretary (army); I.O.
Bassey, director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and others, including
C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering;
S.Y. Yakasai, acting director of procurement in the office of the chief of army
staff; S.S. Tilawan, acting commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force North East
Operation HADIN KAI; and I.M. Abbas, commander of the 34 Brigade.
The council also approved the promotion of Z.A. Saidu
posthumously.
Seventy-seven colonels across various corps and departments were also elevated to the rank of brigadier-general, including Y. Ibrahim of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja; N.N. Gambo, army headquarters department of civil-military affairs; A. Saidu, headquarters Nigerian Army finance corps; I. Waziri, office of the chief of defence staff; M.M. Sani, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; M.T. Nagudu, Nigerian Army armour school; K.O. Bukoye, commander of the 401 special forces brigade; and Y.K. Audu, headquarters of the joint task force north-east operation HADIN KAI.
Waidi Shaibu, the chief of army staff (COAS), congratulated
the newly promoted senior officers and their families.
“The officers must uphold, without compromise, their sacred
oath of allegiance to defend the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria,” Shaibu said.
“Their loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute,
unwavering and beyond reproach.”
The COAS charged the officers to demonstrate exemplary leadership and inspire their subordinates through personal conduct.
