A stampede at the home of the Minister of Defense, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, in Gusau, Zamfara State, has left one person dead and six others injured, according to security sources on Friday.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when a
large crowd gathered to welcome the minister.
Zagazola Makama reported on X handle that the situation
became chaotic and led to a stampede.
The victims included 23-year-old Khalifa Uzairu, who was
confirmed dead on arrival at Farida General Hospital.
Others taken to the hospital were Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu
Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu, and Inusa Musa Shehu.
Officials said the remaining injured victims are receiving
treatment and are in stable condition.
Security personnel have been deployed to restore order, and
investigations are underway to find out what caused the stampede and who may be
responsible.
Authorities urged the public to exercise caution and
cooperate with security measures to avoid similar incidents during official
events.
