In a major blow to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Maharazu Salisu, the member representing Maradun II Constituency in the State House of Assembly, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside all PDP ward executives from his five wards and over 1,000 constituents.
The defection was formally announced Tuesday at the APC state secretariat in Gusau, where Salisu cited persistent injustice, lack of fairness, and total neglect by the PDP-led state government as the driving forces behind his exit.
“Despite the overwhelming support Maradun II gave the PDP during the 2023 elections, our constituency has been completely sidelined—no appointments, no projects, no dividends of democracy,” Salisu declared.
“I was left alone to manage the demands of my people with nothing to show for it.”He named key defectors, including the PDP chairmen of Magami ward (Ahmad Lawal), Tsibiri ward (Lawal Tsibiri), Gidangoga ward (Sanusi Ahmad and Shehu DanAbu), and Maya ward. Also joining the APC was senior PDP chieftain Salis Dodo.
Receiving the new members, APC State Chairman Alhaji Tukur Danfulani pledged full integration and equal treatment at all party levels, regardless of when they joined.
“This is just the beginning more PDP members and others will cross over before year-end,” Danfulani predicted.
He directed APC officials from polling units to the state level to ensure the defectors enjoy equal opportunities in party affairs.
Former APC State Chairman Lawali Liman praised the party’s leadership, singling out Senator Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara West) and Minister of State for Defence Dr. Bello Matawalle for their unwavering support.
Liman urged the defectors to remain loyal and work tirelessly to project the APC’s image, signaling a growing momentum for the opposition party ahead of future elections.
