Zamfara APC Calls for Reinstatement of 3,000 Sacked Workers to Curb Insecurity

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned Governor Dauda Lawal's administration for the alleged arbitrary sacking of over 3,000 civil servants, urging their immediate reinstatement to avert further escalation of the state's insecurity woes.

In a statement issued Monday by Yusuf Idris, the party's publicity secretary, the APC described the dismissals as "arbitrary and deliberate," targeting workers who passed a recent verification exercise.

The affected employees, including teachers, health workers, and others from all 14 local government areas, were reportedly instructed to stay home despite years of dedicated service—many with 10 to 20 years of experience and large families to support.

Idris highlighted a special prayer session held by the sacked workers at the Gusau Eid praying ground, where they sought divine intervention through supplications from the Holy Qur’an.

"The state APC is appalled by [the] arbitrary and deliberate sacking of civil servants," the statement read, emphasizing the human cost of the decision.

Drawing a comparison to the previous APC-led administration under now-Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, Idris noted that despite leaner federal allocations of about N3 billion monthly, Matawalle's government employed over 9,000 people, including 1,400 awaiting regularization, 336 teachers, and 200 nurses and midwives, to enhance social security.

The APC warned that the sackings exacerbate Zamfara's fragile security landscape, where banditry and unrest have intensified.

"We are therefore calling on the state government, especially the governor, to immediately reinstate the victimised civil servants to save the state from an already escalating insecurity situation," Idris concluded, stressing that these "bona fide citizens" deserve sympathy and support.

The Lawal administration, under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is yet to respond to the APC's demands or the workers' protests, amid ongoing tensions between the ruling party and opposition in the violence-plagued North-West state.
