A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Oyo State has pledged to mobilize at least 10 million votes from the South-West region in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, dismissing opposition coalitions as mere "noisemakers" incapable of derailing the ruling party's momentum.
Hon. Aderemi Oseni, representing the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), made the declaration during an interactive session with journalists in Ibadan.
Speaking on behalf of the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF)—a pro-Tinubu advocacy group boasting no fewer than 200,000 members across political lines, Oseni outlined an aggressive voter outreach strategy aimed at reversing Nigeria's low electoral participation rates.
"There is no amount of coalition that can hinder the return of President Bola Tinubu in 2027. What the President has done in the last two years has been outstanding," Oseni asserted, crediting Tinubu's reforms, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy, for laying the groundwork for long-term economic gains.
He described the policy as "bold, courageous, and inevitable," acknowledging short-term hardships but emphasizing benefits like improved fuel availability and fiscal savings now being redirected to infrastructure and social programs.
Oseni's mobilization drive, channeled through ROCOF, focuses on continuous voter registration and education campaigns to boost turnout from the dismal 26.72% recorded in the 2023 general elections to at least 75% in the South-West.
The group, which promotes values of good governance, justice, equity, accountability, and shared prosperity, is targeting Permanent Voter Card (PVC) acquisition and civic engagement across Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states.
"The magnitude of our party votes, the All Progressives Congress in 2027, will be quite unbelievable," Oseni predicted, framing the effort as a cross-partisan push to secure Tinubu's victory amid speculation of opposition alliances.
The lawmaker's comments come as the APC intensifies groundwork for the 2027 polls, with Tinubu's administration touting achievements in economic stabilization and infrastructure despite ongoing challenges like inflation and insecurity.
Oseni, a structural engineer turned politician who built his construction firm Step Development from a modest N60,000 startup in the 1990s into a multi-billion-naira enterprise employing over 500 people, positioned his advocacy as a natural extension of his commitment to service.
Rising from humble beginnings in Ido Local Government Area, where he hawked snacks and worked as a bus conductor to fund his education Oseni holds degrees in civil engineering from Nigerian polytechnics and a master's from the University of Leeds, UK.
In a related note, Oseni hinted at his ambitions for the 2027 Oyo State governorship race, stating, "If such opportunity presents itself, I will grab it with an appreciative mind to deliver real good governance...
This is, however, not a do-or-die affair." He has already invested in constituency projects, including bridges, health centers, roads, boreholes, and scholarships, both before and after his 2023 election.
Beyond politics, Oseni called for urgent reforms at FERMA, decrying its N24 billion annual budget as woefully inadequate for maintaining roads across Nigeria's 36 states.
He outlined a 14-point legislative agenda, including increased funding, private-sector partnerships, staff retraining, and procurement of equipment from China to address critical routes like Sagamu-Ijebu Ode and Ibadan-Ife.
