In a landmark move towards digital empowerment and national development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today unveiled the NIMC NINAuth Application at the State House in Abuja, positioning it as a transformative tool that hands the reins of personal data management directly to Nigerian citizens and legal residents.
This innovative mobile-based platform, developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), aligns seamlessly with the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing privacy, security, and inclusive governance.
The NINAuth app introduces a user-centric approach to identity verification, allowing individuals to grant, revoke, or monitor access to data tied to their National Identification Number (NIN) in real time.
"This is not just an app; it's a declaration of trust in our people," President Tinubu declared during the launch event, attended by top government officials, NIMC executives, and stakeholders from the private sector.
He highlighted how the unified National Identity Database powered by NINAuth will streamline social programs, bolster electoral integrity, improve healthcare delivery, and ensure equitable distribution of national resources, ultimately curbing fraud and ghost beneficiaries in public interventions.
For everyday Nigerians—from roadside vendors seeking micro-loans to families accessing social welfare—the app simplifies identity checks, making processes faster and more secure without the need for repeated document submissions.
NIMC's Director General, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, elaborated on its mechanics, noting that NINAuth eliminates redundant data storage by individuals while enabling instant, auditable authentication for services.
"It's a single source of truth," she said, revealing that NIMC has enrolled over 126 million Nigerians in the last two years alone, with the system now handling 1.3 million daily verifications.
Businesses and enterprises stand to gain immensely, as the platform fosters regulatory compliance, accelerates onboarding such as telecom companies registering millions of subscribers and builds customer trust through transparent data handling.
Government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) are mandated to integrate NINAuth for staff verification and service delivery, promoting oversight and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
"This heralds a remarkable day in our nation’s digital public infrastructure journey as Africa’s largest identity database," the President affirmed, commending NIMC for evolving identity management from a cumbersome process into a tech-driven, globally aligned system.
The launch builds on earlier approvals under the Tinubu administration, with initial unveilings of related platforms dating back to May 2025, but today's full rollout marks its nationwide accessibility.
Experts predict it will revolutionize sectors like banking, education, and immigration, where secure, consent-based data sharing could slash verification times from days to seconds.
President Tinubu urged immediate adoption, calling on citizens to download the app via official channels to "experience verification made simple and data made personal."
