Tinubu Decorates New Service Chiefs With New Ranks in State House Ceremony

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday decorated Nigeria's newly appointed service chiefs with their elevated ranks during a ceremonial event in the council chambers of the State House.

The officers decorated included Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Adm. Idi Abass, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Marshal Kevin Aneke, Chief of Air Staff; and Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence.

The president conducted the decoration in the presence of senior government officials and security leaders, with assistance from the spouses of the promoted officers.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas were among the key dignitaries in attendance.

Others present included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila; and Head of Service Didi Walson-Jack.

The event also drew National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru; and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, attended alongside Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the heads of the Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The decorations came after the National Assembly confirmed the nominees, following President Tinubu's urgent request for approval to allow the new military leaders to take office promptly.

The ceremony signified the official handover of command within Nigeria's armed forces, heralding a new era of leadership aimed at bolstering the country's defence framework.
