A pastor serving as a missionary in Bwai district of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, has narrated how suspected Fulani militants carried out well-coordinated attacks on several communities in the district, killing over 30 people and burning houses and properties.
The pastor, who spoke in a video shared on social media
platforms on Tuesday, said the bandits who stormed the affected villages in
their hundreds, killed both men, women, and children, and set all the houses
and food silos on fire in what he described as the most devastating thing he
has ever seen in his life.
“I am a missionary. I live in Ruff which is close to Bwai
district in Mangu local government area,” the man of God said in the video.
“The surrounding districts are all under my jurisdiction.
What happened is that there was a serious attack by the Fulani militants who
came in the night and stormed the village called Kubat.
“About 30 people, including women and children, young and
old were killed in the attack. Just yesterday, in some villages, including
Murish, Jwak, and others, there was a serious attack by the Fulani people.
“Even when we were on our way to the community where 30
people were killed, the Fulanis laid an ambush for us. They were shooting at us
and we had to crawl on the ground to avoid being hit by the flying bullets and
by the grace of God, none of us was hit or injured.
“In all the villages that they attacked, all the houses were
set ablaze. All their food items, grains, and properties were burned.
“We saw the attackers in their hundreds with sophisticated
weapons exchanging fire with the military.
“This morning, we buried 29 people who were killed in
Fungzai. Immediately, we finished and were about to proceed to Kubwai, where
another mass burial was scheduled. There was a security alert from the security
personnel who were around. They said we should not proceed to our destination
because the Fulani people were still there.
“People are leaving the communities because the situation is
bad and the Fulani people have taken over the villages. The situation is
terrible, very terrible. I can say that these attacks have been well planned
and coordinated and they have achieved their aim,” he lamented.
