The political and traditional elite of the South-West descended upon Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday for a high-level Citizen-Government Dialogue with senior officials from President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The event was a major convergence, drawing Governors, Ministers, Deputy Governors, and former Governors, alongside a powerful contingent of traditional rulers, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Alake of Egbaland, Soun of Ogbomoso, Olowo of Owo, Osemawe of Ondo, and Deji of Akure.
The gathering was designed to bridge the gap between the government and its people, bringing together federal agency heads, National Assembly members, religious leaders, youth representatives, market women, APC chieftains, and civil society groups.
During the dialogue, Ministers and top government officials presented a detailed account of the administration’s achievements over the past two years.
Signaling the reverence for the region's elders, the dialogue was preceded by a special courtesy visit led by former Osun Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, to Yoruba elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, at his Akure residence.
Fasoranti, a foremost disciple of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a key figure in the Western Region’s Free Education policy, remains a highly revered figure whose home has hosted a long list of dignitaries.
The elder statesman, who will celebrate his centenary on May 11, 2026, has already extended an open invitation for the landmark celebration.
