Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja following a productive diplomatic mission representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) in New York and strategic meetings in Germany.
The week-long trip focused on advancing Nigeria's global interests, including UN reforms and economic partnerships.During UNGA 80, Shettima delivered Tinubu’s national statement, advocating for comprehensive reforms to the United Nations, Africa's control over its $700 billion mineral resources, and Nigeria's bid for a permanent Security Council seat.
He secured commendation from UN Secretary-General António Guterres for Nigeria's candidacy and highlighted the country's digital inclusion initiatives. Shettima also promoted Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition plan to global investors, positioning it as a key opportunity for sustainable partnerships.
The Vice President strengthened ties with the United Kingdom on trade, defense, and migration, and engaged the Gates Foundation on expanding healthcare and education.
He further positioned Nigeria as the hub for the African Continental Free Trade Area’s $3.4 trillion market and reassured the Nigerian diaspora of their role in national development.
In Germany, Shettima concluded with high-level discussions, including with Deutsche Bank officials in Frankfurt, to explore investment and partnership opportunities in Nigeria’s developmental projects.
The engagements were described as highly successful, bolstering Nigeria's international standing and economic prospects.
