Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti, says three more
governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are
preparing to leave the opposition party.
Fayose spoke on Wednesday during an interview on ‘Politics
Today’, a Channels Television programme, while reacting to the defection of
Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, from the PDP.
He warned that internal crises within the opposition party
may soon leave it with just five governors.
Fayose described the party’s presidential and governorship
tickets as “ordinary tissue paper” lacking political value.
“Let me tell you, there are three more governors that will
leave soon,” Fayose said.
“There will be five remaining. The five remaining, one of
them will struggle to catch the ticket, and they all know that the ticket is an
ordinary tissue paper.”
He accused some PDP governors of destroying the party by
seeking to control its internal structure.
“They are largely killing the party because they want to
control it. This is what happened in 2023,” he added.
Fayose dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu is
forcing opposition governors to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the defectors are motivated by personal
ambition rather than external pressure.
“President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems,”
he said.
“The PDP is sick and remains perpetually sick without a cure
in view.”
He alleged that the party’s woes were caused by internal
sabotage, saying those responsible for its collapse are well known.
“Those who killed the party know themselves,” Fayose added.
“I’m still a member of the PDP, but it’s not my duty to fix
what I didn’t break.”
