Dr. Josef Onoh, former Southeast spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, has sharply criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his remarks on the resignation of ex-Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.
Atiku had accused the Federal Government of concealing a “national shame” by accepting Nnaji’s resignation instead of dismissing him over alleged certificate forgery, following reports of discrepancies in Nnaji’s academic and NYSC credentials.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Onoh labeled Atiku’s comments a “hypocritical outburst” devoid of moral credibility.
He accused Atiku of exploiting the controversy to attack President Tinubu, describing his tactics as “desperate” and pointing to his “history of ethical failings.”
Onoh defended Tinubu’s decision to accept Nnaji’s resignation as a swift and appropriate response to credible allegations.
Citing Section 147(1) of the 1999 Constitution, Onoh noted that the President has the authority to appoint or remove ministers, with resignation being a dignified option.
“The President’s action upholds the ethical standards of public service outlined in the Fifth Schedule, prioritizing integrity and public confidence,” he said.
Onoh’s response reflects the ongoing political tensions, framing Atiku’s criticism as an attempt to undermine Tinubu’s administration rather than address the substantive issue of Nnaji’s credentials.
