Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully dismantled multiple bandit hideouts in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas, recovering ammunition and a motorcycle during clearance operations.
The operations, part of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, aimed to eliminate bandit activities in the region. Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Oni Olubodunde, stated that the missions were launched on October 5 following intelligence reports of bandit activities in Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, and Kando in Tati, Takum LGA, as well as farmland destruction in Ussa LGA.
In Tarhembe and Tornyi, Team A engaged bandits, overpowering them with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to flee.
Troops recovered four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, and a motorcycle. Meanwhile, Team B cleared suspected bandit camps in Lissam, Ussa LGA, across areas including Kutukok, Konkan, Fank Utaih, Kijwu, Kutukwo, Kwesati, and Alaha, facing no resistance.
Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised the troops’ professionalism and urged residents to provide timely intelligence to support ongoing efforts to restore peace.
He emphasized that the operations have disrupted bandit activities, ensuring greater security for local communities.
