Troops of the Nigerian Army eliminated 12 bandits during a fierce gun battle in Mabai village, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The clash occurred shortly after a peace accord meeting in nearby Kakumi village, Bakori Local Government Area, according to security analyst Zagazola.
Sources reported that the bandits initiated the confrontation by engaging soldiers stationed at a military base in Mabai, leading to a deadly shootout.
Twelve of the assailants were killed, while two army personnel sustained serious injuries and were evacuated to a medical center in Katsina for treatment.
The situation in Mabai has been stabilized, with the military conducting intensive patrols and monitoring to prevent further disruptions to law and order in the area.
The incident underscores ongoing efforts by security forces to curb banditry and restore peace in Katsina State, a region frequently targeted by armed groups.
