The National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to renovate security agencies’ training institutions across Nigeria.
The decision was made during the 153rd NEC meeting, attended by President Tinubu, at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, briefing journalists post-meeting, announced the formation of a committee to assess the condition of these institutions nationwide.
The committee, chaired by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, with former Inspector-General of Police Baba Alkali as secretary, includes governors from Kaduna, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Taraba, and Ogun.
The approval followed a presentation by Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, emphasizing Tinubu’s vision for a $1 trillion economy and the need for increased security investments.
Tinubu highlighted the dilapidated state of police training facilities, stressing that upgrading them is critical to boosting police morale.
The committee has one month to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the institutions.
Governors unanimously pledged to collaborate with the federal government to rehabilitate these facilities in their states.
Tinubu also urged state leaders to prioritize grassroots welfare.
