A senior official of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASRRA, Mrs Serifat Olubukola Talabi, has tragically died just four days before her scheduled retirement from public service and 60th birthday celebration.
Talabi, who served as the Director of Procurement at LASRRA,
was reportedly killed in a road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway
after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway near the
Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Camp in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.
The late civil servant had already sent out invitation cards
for a combined Thanksgiving, Retirement, and 60th Birthday ceremony, planned
for October 22, 2025, at the NERDC Conference Centre, NERDC Road, adjacent to
the Fela Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos.
Confirming the incident, LASRRA said the entire agency was
devastated by the sudden death of one of its top officials.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Public Relations
Officer of LASRRA, Basirat Lawal, described Talabi’s death as a huge loss,
saying staff members were still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
“We are still in shock after receiving the news. She was in
the office on Friday, and everything had been arranged for her retirement
ceremony on October 22.
“She
was supposed to retire on October 13, when she clocked 60, but since our
General Manager, Mrs Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, was away, it was postponed to
October 22. The agency will be present at her burial,” Lawal
said.
According to records, Mrs Talabi joined LASRRA in 2018 and
rose through the ranks to become a Director in 2025. Her colleagues described
her as diligent, humble, and dedicated to duty until her final day in service.
