Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has lauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing Major General Waidi Shaibu, a Kogi native, as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The appointment was part of a major reshuffle in Nigeria’s military leadership announced on Friday.Shaibu succeeds Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who was promoted to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Air Vice-Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke was named the new Air Chief, while Rear Admiral Idi Abbas was appointed as the Naval Chief.
In a statement released on Friday in Lokoja by Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Kogi’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Ododo hailed Shaibu’s appointment as a reflection of Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, equity, and merit-based leadership.
He described Shaibu as a disciplined and dedicated officer whose professionalism makes him a source of pride for Kogi State.Ododo expressed optimism that Shaibu would enhance the Nigerian Army’s efforts to bolster national security.
“Major General Shaibu’s proven track record assures us he will excel in his new role,” he said.
The governor congratulated Shaibu, reaffirmed Kogi’s support for the Tinubu administration, and prayed for divine guidance and protection for the new COAS in his service to Nigeria.
