Some irate fans attacked the match officials during Kano
Pillars’ Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Shooting Stars
Sports Club (3SC) on Sunday.
Chaos ensued at the final whistle shortly after Shooting
Stars scored a late equaliser in the match held at the Sani Abacha stadium in
Kano.
Mustapha Jibrin had given Pillars an early lead in the ninth
minute. But deep into the added time of the second half, Adams Mustapha
equalised for Shooting, and the home crowd became hostile.
At the end of the game, a section of the home fans invaded
the pitch and attacked the match officials.
Videos going viral on social media show the pitch invaders
belining for the referees with missiles and punches.
Some 3SC players and officials were also not exempt from the
assault. Ismail Ayodele and Adams Agba’a were caught in the fire and suffered
head injuries.
Security operatives had to use teargas before the invaders
were dispersed, and their victims could be led to safety.
