Kaduna Assembly PDP Minority Leader Defects to APC with Two Others

The Minority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Ali Kalat from Jema'a Constituency, has led the defection of three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), bolstering the party's dominance in the state legislature.

The move, announced Friday, involves Hon. Danlami Usman Stingo from Kajuru Constituency and Hon. Shehu Abubakar Nulge from Birnin Gwari Constituency, marking a fresh wave of crossovers that could reshape opposition dynamics ahead of future elections.

The defectors, representing key constituencies in Southern and Central Kaduna, cited the "transformative leadership" of Governor Uba Sani and the APC's focus on security, infrastructure, and economic development as key factors in their decision.

"After deep reflection and consultations with our constituents, we believe the APC offers a stronger platform to deliver dividends of democracy to our people," Hon. Kalat stated during a joint press briefing at the APC state secretariat in Kaduna.

He emphasized that the switch aligns with grassroots aspirations, particularly in addressing banditry and underdevelopment in their regions.

The APC welcomed the trio with fanfare, with state Chairman Tukur Sani Kallah describing the defections as a "homecoming of progressive minds."

Kallah assured the new members of equal privileges within the party structure, vowing to integrate their ideas into ongoing initiatives like rural electrification and youth empowerment programs.

The Assembly's PDP caucus, now reduced to a handful of members, faces a precarious future, with the APC poised to command an even firmer majority in the 32-member house.
