Humanity is paramount in my politics - Peter Obi Rejects Derogatory Labels on 'Obidients'

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate and prominent Nigerian politician, has publicly condemned the derogatory labeling of his supporters as “low-class” or “street urchins,” emphasizing that his political philosophy prioritizes humanity and uplifting all Nigerians.

In a recent statement, Obi addressed remarks from critics who have disparaged his followers, calling such rhetoric “deeply unfortunate” and reflective of Nigeria’s broader societal challenges.

Obi, known for his advocacy for ordinary Nigerians, rejected the notion of associating only with the elite, stating, “I have never and will never look down on anyone, except to lift them up.”

He criticized the tendency of some leaders to demean citizens battered by poverty and hardship, asserting, “No Nigerian is of no value.

No Nigerian is a street urchin.” His comments highlight the growing economic disparities in Nigeria, where citizens face significant challenges due to rising poverty.

The politician reiterated his commitment to ensuring dignity, opportunity, and care for all Nigerians, particularly through improved access to education, quality healthcare, and poverty alleviation efforts.

“True leadership is not about mocking the weak, it is about lifting them up,” Obi declared, emohasising his focus on empowering the marginalized rather than aligning with the “high and mighty.”

Obi’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about class divisions in Nigerian politics, with his statement resonating as a call for unity and respect for all citizens, regardless of socioeconomic status.

His message aligns with his long-standing advocacy for inclusive governance and systemic reforms to address Nigeria’s socioeconomic challenges.
