Adesua Etomi has opened up about a life-threatening ordeal
and how the incident deepened her faith.
In a recent Instagram post, the actress recounted the
“horrific incident” in June that led to an unplanned surgery while she was in
the UK with her husband Banky W, and their two kids.
The film star disclosed that the surgery, though serious,
was “ironically the least dramatic part” of the trauma.
The mother of two emphasised that her survival hinged on
divine intervention.
“Long read, but please stay with me. I could have lost my
life in June of this year. I went through a horrific incident that landed me in
unplanned surgery. The surgery was ironically the least dramatic part of what I
went through. I was in the UK with my husband and sons (sons? I have two
sons),” she wrote.
“We were there to serve God. We had two speaking
engagements. One in London and the other in Manchester. If even one single
detail of that day were different, I wouldn’t be here today. I shudder when I
think about it. I have become even more aware of the goodness and presence of
God.”
Etomi expressed a renewed zeal for life, highlighting the
unique closeness to God that can emerge from painful trials.
The actress urged her followers to embrace mindfulness and
thankfulness. She also encouraged everyone to “stop and smell your flowers,” be
present throughout the day, and actively look for the good in each moment, no
matter how small.
“Like a map, I can literally look back over that day and
trace how His hands were all over that situation. There is nothing anyone can
tell me, God is real! And I’ve always known he’s real but this situation
changed something inside me deeply. I’ve said yes to a lot of things since
June. Even my stylist said (ita la wa),” she added.
“Streets of the kingdom please because if I wasn’t here, I
wouldn’t be able to do those things. Not honouring any more invitations for now
please, make I rest. But more than anything else, I feel so much closer to God.
There are certain types of triumphant situations that bring you closer to God.
“But I dare say that certain harrowing painful situations
can make you feel so much closer to him. It’s like you know he is there and he
will get you through it if you let him. I may or may never talk about the fine
details of that ‘less fine day’ in June but I’m here to remind you guys to stop
and smell your flowers.
“Go about your day with an awareness of how much of a
blessing it is that you are still here. Be present throughout your day. Look
for the good things in each day no matter how small. Gratitude matters more
than you know. Recounting all the good things God has done has the ability to
shift your mindset. Even scientists agree that gratitude has significant
positive effects on overall wellbeing.”
