Abia State Governor Alex Otti has presented 28 brand-new Geely Emgrand vehicles to permanent secretaries in the state civil service, a move aimed at boosting mobility and enhancing service delivery.
The handover ceremony, held at the newly commissioned Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, marks a significant step in Otti’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the state’s civil service.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, Governor Otti emphasized that the vehicles were allocated to the recently appointed permanent secretaries, selected through a merit-based, transparent process in early 2025.
“This gesture is to ensure our civil service leaders have the tools to perform efficiently while fostering motivation and accountability,” Otti said, highlighting the administration’s commitment to digital readiness and operational excellence.
The 28 permanent secretaries, drawn from across Abia’s civil service, were appointed to drive the state’s development agenda, with Otti underscoring their role in delivering on his vision for a transformed Abia.
The Geely Emgrand cars, known for their reliability and modern design, are expected to facilitate seamless movement for these top officials as they oversee critical administrative functions.
The initiative has been widely praised as a practical step to strengthen the state’s bureaucracy, though some observers note it comes amid economic challenges facing the region.
“Empowering our civil servants is key to delivering governance that impacts lives,” Otti added, signaling further reforms to enhance public service efficiency.
