Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has initiated the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers to enhance electricity access and foster rural development across 30 communities in the state’s three senatorial districts.
The launch, held at the Government House in Lokoja, marked the first phase of a statewide rural electrification project aimed at fulfilling Ododo’s commitment to improving community welfare.
“This is a proud moment as we flag off the distribution of 30 transformers across Kogi’s three senatorial districts, a crucial step toward empowering our people,” Ododo said during the ceremony.
He emphasized that the project responds directly to community requests received through the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development, reflecting his administration’s focus on grassroots welfare.
Ododo stressed equitable distribution, ensuring all senatorial districts benefit simultaneously.
“These transformers are not just about electricity; they’re about boosting commerce, education, healthcare, and security, transforming lives across Kogi,” he noted.
He added that the initiative supports agriculture and industrial growth while promising future phases to cover more communities.
The Governor urged residents to safeguard the equipment against vandalism to maximize its benefits.
Engr. Abdulmutalib Mohammed, Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, explained that the project followed a thorough technical assessment of community needs.
He highlighted its potential to enhance daily life and stimulate local businesses, commending Ododo for addressing longstanding power supply challenges in rural areas.
