The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced a historic tax collection of ₦47.39 trillion between October 2023 and September 2025, surpassing its target by 115% and setting a new benchmark for revenue generation in Nigeria.
Dr. Zacch Adedeji, FIRS Chairman, revealed the figures during a press briefing, highlighting the agency’s transformative reforms and modernization efforts.
The staggering sum, which dwarfs the ₦21.97 trillion collected in the previous two-year period (October 2021–September 2023), reflects a robust increase in both oil and non-oil revenue streams.
Notably, ₦22.59 trillion of the total was amassed in the first nine months of 2025 alone, driven by enhanced compliance, innovative e-invoicing systems, and expanded tax net initiatives.
He credited the success to strategic policies, including digital tools for real-time tax monitoring and partnerships with businesses to simplify compliance.
