The Federal Government has allocated 5% of Nigeria’s education budget to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), aiming to equip youths with practical, income-generating skills.
Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa announced that the initiative has already engaged 250,000 trainees across 2,600 training centres nationwide.
It targets training 960,000 youths in 28 trades, including solar installation, fashion design, plumbing, and GSM repair.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning, with 80-90% of the training focused on practical skills. Upon completion, participants will receive starter packs and business grants to launch their ventures.
Dr. Alausa highlighted that the TVET program is designed to foster economic independence and reduce youth unemployment by providing market-relevant skills.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to drive sustainable economic growth through human capital development.
