Female Customs Officer Returns After 72-Day Motorbike Journey From Nigeria to Belgium

Assistant Comptroller of Customs Akpevwe Ogboru returned to a jubilant reception at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post on Saturday, October 11, 2025, after completing a remarkable 72-day solo motorbike journey from Nigeria to Belgium and back.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) confirmed that Ogboru, who set out on August 1, 2025, covered 22 countries across Africa and Europe in a 20,530-kilometer odyssey.Senior officers, led by Comptroller Wale Adenuga, Area Controller of the Seme Command, and other Zone A Area Controllers, welcomed Ogboru with pride and admiration.

Radiating gratitude, she shared reflections on her journey’s challenges and triumphs. “It’s been 72 days in 22 countries, and I’m happy to be finally back,” she said.

“I move with positivity. When challenges came, I prayed about them. Sometimes my bike, Rocky, had minor issues in a new country, but we pushed through.”

Ogboru’s mission was to inspire women’s inclusivity and empower the girl-child. “This ride was to tell women to be strong and fearless,” she said.

“Don’t let doubt or fear cripple you. Set your mind to your goals and pursue them with positivity.”

Her motorcycle, named Rocky for its resilience, carried her through deserts, mountains, and rain-soaked roads, symbolizing her unyielding spirit.

The journey, which included stops in Benin, Senegal, Morocco, Spain, and Belgium—where she reached the Nigerian Embassy in Brussels on September 4—also aimed to strengthen Africa-Europe ties. “Africa and Europe can learn from each other,” Ogboru said.

“I pray this ride sparks positive impact and collaboration.”Comptroller Adenuga hailed Ogboru’s courage, crediting the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR for fostering inclusivity.

“Many discouraged her, but the CGC supported her vision,” Adenuga said. “She’s put Nigeria on the global stage, and her feat will enhance trade facilitation under the CGC’s leadership.”

As the first female NCS officer to complete such a journey, Ogboru’s achievement has earned widespread acclaim, inspiring women and officers alike to embrace boldness and break barriers.
