Starting Thursday, October 2, the Enugu State Police Command will begin enforcing tinted glass permits and clamping down on the unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, and unregistered vehicles across the state, according to a statement by spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe on Tuesday.
Ndukwe stated that the enforcement, aligned with existing laws, will target all vehicles with tinted glass, factory-fitted or otherwise, and will be conducted professionally.
Motorists without tinted glass permits are urged to register at http://possap.gov.ng and visit the State Intelligence Department (SID) at the State Command Headquarters, GRA, Enugu, for physical verification.
Alternatively, they should remove tinted glass or replace factory-fitted ones with transparent glass as required by law.
The clampdown will also address unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, Police SPY plates, unallocated official number plates, and unregistered vehicles.
Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa has tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) with overseeing the exercise, directing supervisory officers to ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and professionalism, free from harassment or extortion.
Giwa warned that erring officers will face sanctions, with supervisory officers held accountable.
Motorists are encouraged to cooperate and report any harassment, extortion, or unprofessional conduct to the nearest police station or the Command’s Complaints Response Unit via 09160002486, 07059160602, 08176155557, or WhatsApp/SMS to 09160002486.
