Enugu State First Lady, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, distributed fertiliser bags to registered farmers across 17 Local Government Areas on Wednesday to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security.
The initiative, a collaboration with the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, aims to boost crop yields and improve soil fertility.
Mrs. Mbah emphasized that the fertiliser distribution is part of her office’s empowerment program to support farmers, stating, “By providing these fertilisers, we strengthen agriculture, increase food production, and improve livelihoods, ensuring no family goes hungry.”
She highlighted that enhanced crop output would reduce food imports, stabilize prices, and bolster Enugu’s economy.
Commending the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Patrick Uburu, for his dedication, Mrs. Mbah also thanked stakeholders and agricultural experts for their support in providing farmers with inputs, training, and technical assistance.
She urged farmers to use the fertilisers responsibly to maximize yields and transform their livelihoods.
Representing Uburu, Special Adviser on Agriculture, Mr. Mike Ogbuewu, noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for food sufficiency. He called for prioritizing agriculture to make it more appealing to farmers.
