Wale Tinubu, group chief executive officer (CEO) of Oando Plc, says the planned expansion of the Dangote refinery’s production capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) places Nigeria on the global energy map.
In a post on X on Monday, Tinubu congratulated Aliko
Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group, on the refinery capacity target.
“My friend, @AlikoDangote, your work rate is surreal. 1.4
million barrels per day refining capacity puts Nigeria on the global energy map
as a first,” the Oando chief said.
“This is a rising tide of enterprise that lifts everyone.
Congratulations.”
On October 26, Dangote said the refinery is expanding its
production capacity from 650,000 bpd to 1.4 million bpd within the next three
years.
Officially announcing the expansion plans on Monday, the
billionaire said the move reflects the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s
future, belief in Africa’s potential, and commitment to building energy
independence for the continent and beyond.
“It is also about confidence in Nigeria, confidence in the
leadership of Mr. President Bola Tinubu, confidence in Africa, and in our
capacity to shape our own energy future,” the billionaire said.
Dangote said the refinery will employ more than 65,000
workers, with the construction phase set to create opportunities for local
industries, building on the gains from the firm’s previous development.
He added that the project reinforces Africa’s capability to
construct and operate world-class infrastructure.
The federal government had pledged to support the Dangote
Petroleum Refinery in its bid to achieve a production capacity of 1.4 million
barrels per day (bpd).
